CISTERCIAN LIBRARY

Zirc

The Historical Library is located on the second floor of the building. The first books were brought by the monks who founded the new monastery in the 18th century. After the former dissolution of the Cistercian order, the library became state property, and the National Library was entrusted with its management.
Today, the collection boasts 70 original prints and more than 300 antiques, many of which are unique in Hungary.

The library can be visited with a professional guided tour, during which guests can learn about the history of the Cistercian collection and the order; see a book exhibition, and admire the famous European hall with its marquetry, which praises the work of the Wilde brothers.
